Monastery Marienberg
Visit Monastery Marienberg with its baroque church and crypt, the highest Benedict Abbey in Europe situated at 1.340 meters. Monks have been living here for over 800 years. Today they are mostly working in counseling. Impressive are the archway from the 12th century or the stone sculpture “Mary with child” created around 1400. The crypt is only accessible for prayer and comprises Romanic-Byzantine frescos, groined vaults with angel figures and a number of precious wooden sculptures and paintings. In the former administrative wing of the monastery resides today the museum with show-rooms, hidden art works and spiritual interpretations of the crypt frescos.
