Not far from South Tyrolean ski-resort Kronplatz in Pustertal lies Uttenheim presenting itself from its pristine side. Here farming is a tradition well alive. Framing the wide fields and profound forests, tower the secluded mountain farms in Tauferer Ahrntal. Beside a visit at the remains of Castle Uttenheim and its lovely chapel, it pays to stopover at the baroque church.
Here hiking paths lead all the way to Gais or Bruneck and the locations of Tesselberg and Kematen. Annewandt above Uttenheim offers spectacular views with its location on 1.500 meters. In the neighboring village Mühlbach guests can find the highest bath in Pustertal, the Bath of Mühlbach at 1.700 meters. It was long known as bathing and healing place for farmers. Today only the chapel reminds of the healing powers of the water in Mühlbach.
Mountainbiking on Tesselberg
Those who enjoy mountainbiking, are well advised to cycle around Tesselberg and enjoy some incredible views. Easier tracks offer the cycle paths leading through the valley to Bruneck or Sand in Taufers. Rafting Fans can experience the same route on the water way on the wild Ahr. On summer nights the Street Kitchen in Sand in Taufers dishes up South Tyrolean specialities along with traditional music and an extra of atmosphere. During winter the ski-resorts Speikboden, Klausberg and Kronplatz invite to ski, cross-country and snowshoe-walk. A ski-bus brings winter sports enthousiasts directly from the hotels in Uttenheim to the chosen ski-resort. Find here the most beautiful hotels in Uttenheim in Pustertal.
