Kings of the castle in Welsberg

Due to its location between Alps and Dolomites, Welsberg offers a range of hikes, but also a decent selection of cultural highlights. High above the village, on a majestic rock, towers Castle Welsperg – testimony of the once outstanding position of the village. Today guests of the hotels in Welsberg can visit the well preserved core of the castle. During summer the site is used to stage events and concerts. The Castle-Path introduces into the history and culture of the village. Other sights are the Monastery of the Saint Clare's Sisters with the circular monovallate; or the Church of Welsberg with the works of famous local artist Paul Troger from 17th century. The birth house of the baroque painter close by the church and was rebuilt to a presentable museum.

Traditional living

During summer the Dolomites offer here plenty of destinations to discover as well as the green valley of Gsies or the glacial world of the Rieserferner. Around Castle Welsberg walking paths invite to go slow and stay: easy strolls through the busy village or alpine paths leading to mountain lodges. The village in Pustertal has its own train station and is situated at the cycle path, which allows excursions by bike and the return by train. Above Welsberg lies Taisten, a traditional village living today as once.

During winter there is an ice skating rink directly in the village, and in the near Rasen-Antholz modern cross-country tracks. The ski-bus connects the hotels in Welsberg with the ski-lifts or the ski-resort Kronplatz in Olang, or one can visit the smaller quieter areas on site: Helm and Rotwand in Sexten and Haunold in Innichen. Find here the most beautiful hotels in Welsberg in South Tyrol in the holiday region Kronplatz.

  • Our favourite place to stay in the Dolomites for a ski holiday, Hotel Gran Baita has become a genuine home-from-home that we look forward to returning to year after year. The food is consistently superb, with generous breakfasts and beautifully prepared dinners that feel closer to fine dining than to standard “ski hotel” fare. The atmosphere throughout the hotel is relaxed and casual, so you can properly unwind after a day on the mountain. Staff are friendly and always make us feel genuinely welcome, from reception to the restaurant and bar, and that warmth really adds to the overall experience. Gran Baita is the place we keep coming back to, and it’s the first hotel we recommend to friends planning a trip to the Dolomites.
  • Great experience at the Alpin Garden. Hotel with a very nice spa, nice service, great friendly personnel. Ski area shuttle also for ski rentals. The rooms are very nice but I’m not a big fan of the main areas of the hotel like restaurants and lounge. It all fell very crowded and not traditional mountain looking. Spa is high standards + small useful gym.
  • It was an absolutely stunning hotel. We got upgraded to an amazing Love suite, the view was incredible. The breakfast was served in a very unique way, we enjoyed it . We ll come back again next year . Marcus is an outstanding manager, he realty knows what are the needs of the travelers . The Spa is gorgeous with a very strong sauna . Thank you for having us !!!
