In Glurns it’s not the size that counts
In the West of South Tyrol lies the smallest town of the region with barely 900 inhabitants. The town Glurns in Vinschgau was founded 700 years ago and most of its medieval flair has been preserved to the day.
Behind medieval city walls
Enter the ten meter high city walls and feel yourself taken straight back to the Middle Ages. You may find yourself utter: “Permission to enter Sir?” or feel the urge to be pinched by someone: The unbelievably well preserved curtain wall with the numerous city and watch towers could very well be guarding the city still today.
In 1989 Glurns served alongside Laas as film setting for the two-piece of the South Tyrolean film production „Sold home“ - original title: „Verkaufte Heimat“. Discover a piece of contemporary history and stroll through the long-standing alleys, arches, passages; enjoy a delicious Italian coffee on the city square of Glurns and soak up this extraordinary atmosphere beneath ancient horse chestnuts.
The market square has long served as an important meeting place for old and young; in fact still today it offers the site for two major annual fairs: In August the “Bartholomäus-Market” and in November the “Seala-Market” (All Saints’ Market). The market day is traditionally a social event; here you can make new acquaintances, catch up, talk, laugh.
The South Tyrolean village has attracted more and more visitors since the 70s; the hotels in Glurns offer the ideal conditions for complete relaxation and the wonderful landscape for hikes or bike-tours.
