At the source of joy in Laatsch
Still waters run deep, so they say. So also in the little village of Laatsch in Vinschgau, which together with Burgeis lies on communal grounds of Mals and at the entrance of valley Münstertal. Nobody would imagine exuberance and masked craziness here … Until it is carnival time and with it arrives the legendary „Shrove Tuesday of Laatsch“. Then everything about the village is upside down, literally, including the locals. If you are in upper Vinschgau during this time, do not miss this very particular happening. Foolish goings-on, hilarious masks, potential celebrities, all that can be found and more in the annual carnival parade of Laatsch.
During this event actual themes from culture, society or positics are mocked accordingly – creativity and irony are here the essential ingredients. Every two years, the carnival is buried here. With casket, myrrh, mourning relatives - the whole shebang. Don't miss this very bizarre happening.
In stillness lies strength
Once the carnival is over, everything returns to normal in the village. Now, those who had initially come here to enjoy the peace and tranquility, will find what they were looking for. Besides its favourable position, far from the traffic and street noise, Laatsch offers a wonderful nature setting.
Relax during a hike to the mountain pastures or lodges, take a deserved rest and rediscover the feeling of being truly one with nature. Visit the freetime and sporting arena „Sportwell“ in Mals, enjoy the fantastic outdoor pool, the sauna or an apple bath, typical for this South Tyrolean region. Recover and renew with the help of local wisdom.
Also culture lovers will find a few interesting sights in Laatsch. Well worth a visit is the Church of Saint Leonhard built over the street and known as a real Gothic treasure.
