On the high plain of Rodeneck
High above the canyon of river Rienz, on an impregnable rock, towers Castle Rodenegg, one of the most beautiful castles in South Tyrol. One of the most famous sights in the castle are the medieval 13th-century frescos illustrating scenes from the Artus-myth “Iwein” by Hartmann von Aue. At the foot of the building lies the village, part of the valley Isarco, characterized by gentle meadows, farmhouses, traditional inns and its freestanding church - all around it the profound forests.
Sunrise on Astjoch
The many hiking- and walking paths leading through the picturesque village, the traditional hotels in Rodeneck and the hospitality of the locals make a stay here especially pleasant. The high plain of Rodeneck, one of the largest high plains in Europe, is only a short distance away. In these solitary heights a variety of lodges offer food and sometimes housing, in the midst of immense peace and tranquility. “Astjoch” offers an impressive panoramic view, a special event particularly at sunrise.
During winter the plain offers beautiful tracks for cross-country skiers and ski-tour enthusiasts. Downhill skiers find the resorts Kronplatz, Plose and Gitschberg not far from the village. Besides, the village offers the possibilities for ice-skating, snowshoe walking, sledding and even torch walks. Culture lovers find the concerts in the surrounding villages or the guided tours in Brixen especially appealing, but also the villages Meransen and Spinges are attractive destinations with extraordinary views over the valley. Adventure-seekers find rafting tours in the nearby river Eisack and much more. If you are looking for an accommodation on those sunny heights, find here the best hotels in Rodeneck in the South Tyrolean valley of Eisacktal in the holiday region Gitschberg Jochtal.
