Apple blossom in Schlanders
On the grounds of Stilfserjoch National Park in the South Tyrolean Vinschgau, amidst vineyards, orchards and chestnut groves, lies the sunny market commune Schlanders. The commune comprises besides Schlanders the places Kortsch, Göflan, Vetzan, Nördersberg and Sonnenberg. The origins of the village reach far back to the New Stone Age. Now and then it is characterized by farming traditions. The farmers of Schlanders went through a transformation from animal farmers to fruit farmers, and founded 1946 one of the largest fruit cooperatives in Europe: GEOS.
