Recharging in the sunny village of Meransen
Above Mühlbach on a sunny plateau lies Meransen in Valle Isarco on 1.414 meters altitude. The village with the gothic church of St. Jacob and the Holy Virgins is best reachable via Mühlbach – via cable car or the panoramic road. Hotels in Meransen offer a spectacular panorama over Rodeneck and the whole valley as well as walking paths leading up to alpine pastures and lodges, starting directly in the village.
Meransen lies at mount Gitschberg, a small but versatile resort for hiking and skiing. On the lookout at the top on roughly 2.500 meters, visitors enjoy a sea of mountain peaks – hundreds of peaks comprising the Alps of Zillertal, Stubai and Ötztal. During winter various downhill slopes offer something for every level. In the village of Meransen a baby-slope offers training ground for beginners. Other ski-resorts in the surroundings are Plose in Brixen or Kronplatz near Bruneck.
After a cold winter day the Wellness Center AlpinPool helps to relax and regain new strengths. But also the sun helps to recharge energies. Thanks to its position Meransen is one of the sunniest places in South Tyrol.
Kneipp cures on alpine heights
During the warmer seasons the alpine cabins open their doors and dish up savory South Tyrolean home cooking. An easy walk leads over the valley of Altfass to the Lodge “Moserhütte” at 1.937 meters. On this route hikers pass a Kneipp-Parcours and numerous chances to rest, such as the lodge “Großberghütte” or “Wiesehütte”. From here the lakes of Seefeld are easily reachable.
Down in the village a minigolf-course, a tennis court and a toboggan run await visitors according to season. During autumn you can experience here one of the most famous events in South Tyrol: the so-called “Almabtrieb” where farmers drive their cattle down from the mountain pastures and to their stables.
