In the nature park in Sand in Taufers

Sand in Taufers is one of the communes situated in the nature park Rieserferner-Ahrn and lies in the South Tyrolean Ahrntal, a northern side-valley in Pustertal. The name „Sand“ mirrors the repeated floods of the village. The waters of the valley Tauferer Ahrntal can be best experienced with the natural phenomenon of the waterfalls of Reinbach in Rein. A well designated walking path – the path of St. Francis – leads directly to them. Those who want to spend their vacation in a hotel in Sand in Taufers, find here plenty of possibilities for water sports: whether in the wild nature with a rafting or canyoning tour or in the modern bathing and wellness center Cascade with sauna area and Nature Lake.

Out and about in Sand in Taufers

Those who prefer solid grounds are well advised to visit the high rope course of Schwarzbachalm. Climbing fans find here over 20 platforms with exercises like the balance beam, the Tibetan bridge or the spider net – all in up to fourteen meters height. Outside the course wait the walks of the commune. Experienced climbers can go hiking with extreme mountaineer Hans Kammerlander, who is from Ahornach, part of the commune Sand in Taufers.

Above the rooftops of Sand in Taufers towers the possibly most important trademark of the commune – Castle Taufers. The castle belongs to the largest, most impressive and influential castles of the country. Originally the Lords of Taufers lived in the castle. When their time was up, the owners changed repeatedly and the castle decayed over the years to a ruin, until it was renovated in 1907. Today visitors can access the castle, participate in a guided tour and enjoy traditional meals in the castle inn.

On summer evenings the village provides the site for the Tauferer Street kitchen. Known for its tasty food, the lighthearted music and atmosphere, the event is a popular meeting point for locals and visitors from all over the country. During winter the nearby ski-resort Speikboden is easily reachable, as are the areas Klausberg and KronplatzFind here the most beautiful hotels in Sand in Taufers in the South Tyrolean valley of Ahrntal.

  • Our favourite place to stay in the Dolomites for a ski holiday, Hotel Gran Baita has become a genuine home-from-home that we look forward to returning to year after year. The food is consistently superb, with generous breakfasts and beautifully prepared dinners that feel closer to fine dining than to standard “ski hotel” fare. The atmosphere throughout the hotel is relaxed and casual, so you can properly unwind after a day on the mountain. Staff are friendly and always make us feel genuinely welcome, from reception to the restaurant and bar, and that warmth really adds to the overall experience. Gran Baita is the place we keep coming back to, and it’s the first hotel we recommend to friends planning a trip to the Dolomites.
  • Great experience at the Alpin Garden. Hotel with a very nice spa, nice service, great friendly personnel. Ski area shuttle also for ski rentals. The rooms are very nice but I’m not a big fan of the main areas of the hotel like restaurants and lounge. It all fell very crowded and not traditional mountain looking. Spa is high standards + small useful gym.
  • It was an absolutely stunning hotel. We got upgraded to an amazing Love suite, the view was incredible. The breakfast was served in a very unique way, we enjoyed it . We ll come back again next year . Marcus is an outstanding manager, he realty knows what are the needs of the travelers . The Spa is gorgeous with a very strong sauna . Thank you for having us !!!
