In the forests of Deutschnofen
On the sunny high plane of Mt. Regglberg, within mighty forests and pristine mountain farms, lies the commune Deutschnofen with the trademark Castle Thurn. Once the population here was farmers only, until the timber industry gained more and more importance. Apparantly the wood for the Marcus-pillars in Venice stem from the forests of Deutschnofen.
Over the decades the commune has evolved to a popular holiday destination - with the known ski-resort Obereggen, the well-visited place of pilgrimage Maria Weißenstein and the oldest Golf Club in South Tyrol in Petersberg. Castle Thurn, once court of justice in the region, homes today a museum, which includes a precious collection of religious art works and records.
In the ski and hiking arena Latemar-Obereggen
Deutschnofen offers the ideal starting point for hiking, biking and Nordic-Walking. A popular destination is the gorgeous Lake Karersee and the alpine pass Karerpass in Welschnofen. An insightful tour for bikers is the Tour of Eggental; start is in the city of Bozen about 20 minutes away. The cable car east of the city brings bikers up to Kohlern, where they can cross the entire valley via Birchabruck and Karneid.
In the winter the paths turn into gates to a winter wonder land for cross-country skiers and snowshoe walkers. In the ski-center Latemar-Obereggen winter sports enthusiasts find a variety of lifts, downhill slopes and toboggan-runs, which are open several times per week. Shuttle buses connect the lift station with the hotels in Deutschnofen. From the winter season 2013/2014 is also available a new cable car to 10 eats, one of the most mederne of South Tyrol, which will take you from the center of Deutschnofen directly to the ski area Carezza.
On site a training hill awaits kids and beginners, along with wonderful winter walking paths. In the village you find different shopping possibilities and a good access to the city.
