Eggen at the foot of Latemar
On the communal grounds of Deutschnofen lies Eggen in Eggental at an altitude of 1.120 meters. The village in the heart of UNESCO World Nature Heritage Dolomites gained over the past decades great fame due to the ski-resort Latemar-Obereggen not far from Mt. Rosengarten. A ski bus brings guests from the hotels in Eggen in less than ten minutes to the foot of Latemar, where modern lifts help to cover the last bit and bring to the summit with its spectacular 360 degree view. Cross-country skiers find here about 90 km of tracks, and sleigh-riders different toboggan-runs through the monumental mountains of the Dolomites. In between lie the traditional cabins to warm up and recharge with the help of South Tyrolean traditional dishes.
In the summer the commune of Deutschnofen offers a well-organized bus system, guided theme walks and cycle tours and Nordic Walking Days. Over 530 km of walking paths lead through the valley of Eggental, numerous Mountainbike-routes, eight fixed rope routes and two golf courses: one in Karersee and one in Petersberg.
By the way, directly in the village are restaurants, pizzerias and cafés, shops, tennis courts, basket and soccer fields, a volleyball field, and a sports center with playground and a skate-park. Those who feel the need for culture in between, find in Eggen the Church of St. Nikolaus and above Petersberg the place of pilgrimage Maria Weißenstein. Regular buses bring travelers in only 20 minutes to the South Tyrolean capital Bozen, where a rich cultural offer gives a great overview of the region.
The observatory Max Valier in Gummer

Astronomer Max Valier from Bozen dedicated his life to them. To honor him an observatory was built in Gummer, a short drive from Eggen, which should allow everyone to observe the “spyholes in the firmament”.
