In the spa gardens of Niederdorf
Mountain bikers know this place as the site for the hardest mountain bike race in the Dolomites, Dolomiti Superbike. The birth place of tourism
Over 100 years ago a certain Miss Emma lived and worked here in Niederdorf in Hochpustertal. The hospitality and cooking skills of this most famous Tyrolean host and hotelier was known all over the country; for her life’s work Emperor Franz Josef awarded her the Golden Cross of Merit. Today you can find out more about her and the history of Niederdorf in the Museum of Tourism of Hochpustertal.
Not far from Niederdorf a valley leads to Prags and the legendary wild lake of Prags, one of the most beautiful natural phenomena of the area, also reachable via cycle or hiking paths. Close by you find Plätzwiese, a high plateau on 2.000 meters in the midst of the Dolomites of Pustertal. Here you can walk all the way to the lodge of Dürrenstein, where you will be thanked with spectacular views of the world famous peaks of the Drei Zinnen. During winter the alpine plain offers a great site for cross-country skiing and sledding.
In the alpine retreat Niederdorf visitors also find a cross-country track, a toboggan run, an ice skating rink and an animal park; besides you will find the Skiing Region Sexten Dolomites with ski resorts like Haunold, Helm and Rotwand, easily reachable with the Ski Pustertal Express.
