Between the glowing rock walls of Heiligkreuzkofel, the group Fanes and the Sella lies Stern on 1.463 meters height. Here farms and apartment houses group around the antique Mansion Rubatsch. The Dolomite-village appears to be sleeping. Only the little brook and the farmers on the fields prove the contrary.
But once a year, the quiet village starts to bloom and blossom, when athletes from all over the world meet here to compete with each other during the Alpine Ski-World-Cup. Then the ski circus starts and brings a few days of festive atmosphere, music and cheerfulness. The down-hill slope “Gran Risa”, part of the South Tyrolean ski-resort Alta Badia, becomes the site for a spectacular giant slalom race. Participants surmount altitude differences of 448 meters on a grade of 36 percent. Start is Piz La Ila at 1.871 meters, the goal the village Stern. Due to its shady position, the slope is often icy which makes it one of the most difficult tracks in the Ski-World-Cup.
Closer to the stars
The rest of the year the village between Pedratsches and St. Kassian falls back to its idyllic peace and quiet – a secluded place on earth, where you can still discover wonderfully hidden paths and spots. Beside the regular selection of winter sport activities, you can find here organized horse sleigh rides and Tandem Paraglide Flights. Those who spend their vacation in a hotel in Stern and would like to experience the airy heights, will be given wings and find – a little bit closer to the stars – a very different perspective of the Dolomites. Find here the most beautiful hotels in Stern in Alta Badia in South Tyrol.

Stosunek jakości do ceny oraz położenie Hotelu. Do każdego ośrodka było bardzo blisko. Do ski busów wystarczyło przejść na drugi stronę ulicy. Restauracja z miłą.obsługą i bardzo dobrym chefem. Polecam z czystym sercem.
Our favourite place to stay in the Dolomites for a ski holiday, Hotel Gran Baita has become a genuine home-from-home that we look forward to returning to year after year.
The food is consistently superb, with generous breakfasts and beautifully prepared dinners that feel closer to fine dining than to standard “ski hotel” fare. The atmosphere throughout the hotel is relaxed and casual, so you can properly unwind after a day on the mountain. Staff are friendly and always make us feel genuinely welcome, from reception to the restaurant and bar, and that warmth really adds to the overall experience. Gran Baita is the place we keep coming back to, and it’s the first hotel we recommend to friends planning a trip to the Dolomites.
Great experience at the Alpin Garden.
Hotel with a very nice spa, nice service, great friendly personnel.
Ski area shuttle also for ski rentals.
The rooms are very nice but I’m not a big fan of the main areas of the hotel like restaurants and lounge. It all fell very crowded and not traditional mountain looking.
Spa is high standards + small useful gym.
