In the reign of castles and lakes in Eppan
Nestled within the hills, characterized by vineyards, cedars, cypresses and pines … lies Eppan on the South Tyrolean wine road. The mild climate in the South of South Tyrol contributes to the growth of excellent grapes, and the deriving internationally famous wines, which can be tasted on the exquisite vineyards or hotels in Eppan. It is actually the largest winegrowing commune in South Tyrol, comprising beside the main village St. Michael-Eppan, eight other villages: St. Pauls, Girlan, Montiggl, Frangart, Perdonig, Gaid, Missian and Unterrain. About Ice Holes and bathing lakes
When the summer temperatures rise, it is time for a visit to the Ice Holes. This cold-air-hotspot can be found above Mt. Gandberg. On this incredible place hot air emerges through stone-cracks and provides a climate beneficial for over 600 plant species.
Those who prefer the element water find the Lakes of Montiggl in the corresponding village - the lakes are the cleanest bathing lakes in Italy. The bigger of the two, the adventure bath “Lido”, is especially popular among kids and offers one of the longest slides in South Tyrol. The smaller lake offers an oasis in the forest to sunbathe and relax. At the parking place at the lake of Montiggl starts a hiking path to the Springvalley. Nowhere else in the country this many spring bulb flowers grow in one spot. Under normal conditions you can witness the first flowers here already at the end of February.
In the South lies the Lake of Fennberg on an altitude of over 1.000 meters, promising plenty of tranquility and a refreshing bathing experience. Above Kurtatsch on Fennberg the lake lies within wonderfully mystical scenery. During winter you find access to the nearby ski areas Rittner Horn, Reinswald in Sarntal and Obereggen in Eggental.
