Near the villages Schlanders and Latsch in Vinschgau, amidst the river Tanaser and Mt. Sonnenberg, lies the wonderfully little village of Eyrs. The Southern dry and rocky steeps of Mt. Sonnenberg are the complete opposite to the shadowy and profoundly forested Mt. Nördersberg. Perseverant locals managed to cultivate here a variety of plants only due to artificial irrigation channels, still visible today on the so-called “Waale”, walking paths along those channels.
The paths along the ancient irrigation systems are very popular among hikers, as they lead through the unique nature, composed of forests, meadows and orchards. Well worth a visit is the information walk “Laaser Leitenwaal”. The walks are particularly pleasant during spring and autumn; but also during winter they are mostly snowfree and therefore ideal for extended hikes at higher altitudes.
In the home of bats and weasels
Not far from the village center lies the meadows of Eyrs, home to a variety of rare animals and plants. 1976 they were declared protected biotope and 2004 part of Natura-2000. Visitors can find here the near threatened species of the European bat Barbastella barbastellus, characterized by its short nose, small eyes and wide ears; and the least weasel (mustela nivalis), the smallest of the carnivores; despite its size, it is a fierce hunter and capable of killing a rabbit ten times its weight. Look out for the corncrake, the long-eared owl and the grass snake!
No matter whether you visit the biotope of Eyrs or choose to walk through the Ötztaler Alps – after a long and fun day you will be looked after in the hotels in Eyrs in the South Tyrolean Vinschgau. Find your accomodation here among our selection of the best hotels in Eyrs!

Our favourite place to stay in the Dolomites for a ski holiday, Hotel Gran Baita has become a genuine home-from-home that we look forward to returning to year after year.
The food is consistently superb, with generous breakfasts and beautifully prepared dinners that feel closer to fine dining than to standard “ski hotel” fare. The atmosphere throughout the hotel is relaxed and casual, so you can properly unwind after a day on the mountain. Staff are friendly and always make us feel genuinely welcome, from reception to the restaurant and bar, and that warmth really adds to the overall experience. Gran Baita is the place we keep coming back to, and it’s the first hotel we recommend to friends planning a trip to the Dolomites.
Great experience at the Alpin Garden.
Hotel with a very nice spa, nice service, great friendly personnel.
Ski area shuttle also for ski rentals.
The rooms are very nice but I’m not a big fan of the main areas of the hotel like restaurants and lounge. It all fell very crowded and not traditional mountain looking.
Spa is high standards + small useful gym.
It was an absolutely stunning hotel. We got upgraded to an amazing Love suite, the view was incredible. The breakfast was served in a very unique way, we enjoyed it . We ll come back again next year . Marcus is an outstanding manager, he realty knows what are the needs of the travelers . The Spa is gorgeous with a very strong sauna . Thank you for having us !!!
