Ladin culture in St. Martin in Thurn
Far away from the main roads but nevertheless well connected lies the commune St. Martin in Thurn with Untermoi near Peitlerkofel and the traditional mountain village Campill. The village in Pustertal situated on 1.127 meters is not only the center of the commune but also the center of Ladin culture.
Here you will find the Ladin Cultural Institute “Micurà de Rü” and the Ladin Museum in the medieval castle “Ciastel de Tor”. Both institutions offer detailed insights into the culture, language and myths of the South Tyrolean Ladin population looking back over thousands of years of history. Today the language is spoken only in few regions: in South Tyrol in Gadertal and Gröden, outside in few regions of Trentino and in Switzerland.
Legendary nature park Puez-Geisler
