In the West of South Tyrol, North of Mals, at the shore of lake Haidersee lies the village St. Valentin auf der Haide on the high plane at Reschenpass providing an impressive view over the unique panorama.
The area around Reschenpass is filled with exciting hiking trails: Take a walk around lake Haidersee or enjoy a family picnic in Reschen at Lake Reschen and meditate over its beautiful blue colour or the bell tower reminder or the flooded villages over half a century ago. Here you can try rafting, kite surfing, paragliding or even canyoning.
About “Giggerlimilch” and “Lai wau waiu”
Enjoy easygoing winter days in the ski area Haideralm in St. Valentin auf der Haide, one of three ski areas in the holiday region Reschenpass. Discover the longest descent in Vinschgau, leading from 2.200 meters down to 1.470 meters. The lifts leave directly from the village center and favor a successful day of skiing.
If you would like to chat with the locals about this and that, then you might be well advised to learn a few scraps of dialect. For instance the typical ski-drink “Pistentiger” (egg liquor with milk) is called “Giggerlimilch” in St. Valentin auf der Haide. However, if you do not understand the local slang despite the “Giggerlimilch”, and you can only understand “lai wau waiu” (=nonsense), then don’t despair; no one is born a master.
Visit Saint Anna’s Church in Graun, and enjoy its beautiful view over Vinschgau; and in the evening feast on the culinary delights served in the hotels in St. Valentin auf der Haide. Hotels in the surroundings of St. Valentin auf der Haide
Modern resort in a wonderful mountain landscape, high-quality products from the region and our own farm, spacious wellness area, rich activity programme, numerous extras for families.
Bella Vista Hotel means adventure and moments of enjoyment for the whole family, a breathtaking mountain backdrop, fresh and regional cuisine, fun for the little ones and relaxation for the grown-ups.
Our favourite place to stay in the Dolomites for a ski holiday, Hotel Gran Baita has become a genuine home-from-home that we look forward to returning to year after year.
The food is consistently superb, with generous breakfasts and beautifully prepared dinners that feel closer to fine dining than to standard “ski hotel” fare. The atmosphere throughout the hotel is relaxed and casual, so you can properly unwind after a day on the mountain. Staff are friendly and always make us feel genuinely welcome, from reception to the restaurant and bar, and that warmth really adds to the overall experience. Gran Baita is the place we keep coming back to, and it’s the first hotel we recommend to friends planning a trip to the Dolomites.
Great experience at the Alpin Garden.
Hotel with a very nice spa, nice service, great friendly personnel.
Ski area shuttle also for ski rentals.
The rooms are very nice but I’m not a big fan of the main areas of the hotel like restaurants and lounge. It all fell very crowded and not traditional mountain looking.
Spa is high standards + small useful gym.
It was an absolutely stunning hotel. We got upgraded to an amazing Love suite, the view was incredible. The breakfast was served in a very unique way, we enjoyed it . We ll come back again next year . Marcus is an outstanding manager, he realty knows what are the needs of the travelers . The Spa is gorgeous with a very strong sauna . Thank you for having us !!!
