In a green valley in the Dolomites lies the village Villnöss. The valley is impressively framed by Peitlerkofel and Geislergroup and extends over 24 kilometers towards the West until it meets Valle Isarco North of Klausen. Villnöss is the birth place of extreme mountaineer, environmental activist and author Reinhold Messner. Messner was the first one to climb all the fourteen 8.000 meter peaks without bottled oxygen and climbed Nanga Parbat alone. He crossed Antarctic, Greenland and the desert Gobi, all the while for the experience of his psychological and physical limitations. Today he lives in Meran, in Vinschgau and in Munich and is honourable citizen of Villnöss.

The church of St. Magdalena was said to have been built after a severe storm. During this storm the river washed up a small statue of St. Magdalena; on the spot where the statue was found a church was built, where the figure still stands today. Southwest of the entrance to the valley of Villnöss lies Teis on a sunny plane with beautiful view over the Eisacktal. Here in a mineral museum lie the famous balls of Teis: hollow minerals with coloured amethyst enclosures.
