Witches and other mystical creatures
The history of witches on the magical Mt. Schlern reaches far back to the Middle Ages. To the day numerous myths and fairy-tales are told about the mystical creatures, who once lived in the mountains of South Tyrol. There were the Bregostans: herb-women, who helped the sick and the weak to gain new strength with the help of the aurora; there were the Saligen: blessed women, who were ensourceled by King Laurin in beautiful flowers, growing gray hair in autumn. Then there were of course the dwarfs, the giants and - of course - the witches ...
According to popular belief the head-witch once sat on the so-called "witch-benches" above Völs to observe the whole area. Those who would like to discover the Schlern region in the Dolomites for themselves, find here the most beautiful hotels in Völs am Schlern on Seiser Alm.
