The Queen of Alpine Roads
Trafoi in Vinschgau is the starting point of the road leading to Stilfserjoch. The road is the highest pass road in Italy and one of the most spectacular pass roads worldwide. Over 49 km it meanders through the impressive landscape with 48 curves on the South Tyrolean and 34 on the Lombardian side.
In late summer you will find here the Stilfserjoch Bike Day attracting thousands of hobby and pro-bikers from all over the region and the world. On this day the so-called „Queen of Alpine Roads“ is closed for motor-operated traffic. Then you won't hear anymore motorbikes, no more honking cars, only silence and the heavy breathing of those pedal along with beating hearts.
The Stilfserjoch National Park extends itself around the pass road over four Italian provinces and 130.000 hectars presenting one of the largest nature reserves in Europe. The park is rich of the most diverse animals and plants, a refuge for creatures like the groundhogs, chamois and capricorns.
